What role do multiliteracies play for writing in the 21st century?

Digitization has changed our lives a lot over the past few decades. Therefore, education has to be adapted. The pedagogy of multiliteracies becomes more important to prepare students for all areas of life in this modern world.

Writing in the EFL classroom always played an important role in teaching. Nowadays writing is more complex since more literary genres and other written ways of communication came to existence. There are blog posts on the internet, where countless people can write down their thoughts, chats, e-mails and so on. Most of the times, written language, audio and pictures or videos are combined.

To fully participate in society and economy today a person needs to be able to write. Our communication with each other today takes partly place on the internet, where written communication is needed. Through globalization, most companies need to be able to talk to other companies or employees around the world. Mostly by writing e-mails and similar.

To become a good writer using multiliteracies is a good way to teach writing. Combining different modes like visual and audio, makes teaching and learning close to the real world where almost always information appears with combined modes.

    Hey Lisa,
I really liked your text about multiliteracies. It has a clear structure and is easy to follow for the reader. It is short but everything important is in it and you have a clear point. The only thing you could change is your title, since it is not that catchy.
    Best regards, Lucy
